DIY Face & Body Cream | Zero Waste Recipe

This is the easy recipe on how to make your own (DIY) face and body cream with just a few ingredients. This cream is not only easy to make, but better for the environment and your health than any other cream you would get in a conventional store. Keep in mind that this cream lasts for a couple weeks, but in order to make it last longer, store it in the fridge and use a spatula or a spoon instead of your fingers to take it from its container.

You should be able to get all the ingredients you need packaging free in a bulk store or in glass/paper packaging in an eco store (or maybe even in your local supermarket).

Ingredients:
50g (about 1/2 cup) Shea Butter
50g (about 1/2 cup) Cocoa Butter
15g (1 table spoon) Jojoba Oil
15g (1 table spoon) Castor Oil
5 drops (optional) Grapefruit Essential Oil

Feel free to switch up the ingredients if you prefer different ones. Alternatively to Cocoa Butter you could use Coconut Oil but keep in mind that its melting point is 24C/76F degrees, which means at warm temperatures the cream might be more of a liquid. Instead of Jojoba and Castor Oil you can use Almond, Rapseed, Olive, Argan or Retinol Oil. And of course you can use whatever kind of essential oil you like! I like to switch it up all the time.

Step 1: Melt the solid ingredients
I melt them by putting them in a glas bowl over a double boiler (pan with boiling/hot water)

Step 2: Add the liquid ingredients

Step 3 (optional): Add the essential oil

Step 4: Put in the fridge (1h) or the freezer for about 30min

Step 5: Mix the ingredients until it looks creamy

And ready is your whipped and delicious looking face and body cream! You can also use it for your hair as a deep treatment conditioner or as shaving cream or as an in-the-shower lotion, if you don’t want the cream to be too moisturising.
