Winter is finally setting in! The forecast promised snow but, for now, all it brought Salzburg is ice. Only the surrounding mountains are covered with a thick blanket of powdery snow. A visit of the fortress, towering high above the picturesque town, allows for an unrestricted gaze upon all their might. Down in city below, you can feel the history as you stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets. The baroque architecture seems to flourish and sprout into one masterpiece after another. Churches, a cathedral and my favourite: the gardens of Schloss Mirabell. The Palace itself was altered after a fire but it is still easy to imagine how young mozart’s music used to fill its grand marble halls. Salzburg is the birthplace of this Austrian “Wunderkind” after all.
